Personality

At Garreg Mach, Adeliza presents herself as the picture of a perfect Faerghus noblewoman: elegant, theatrical, sociable, and always ready with a smile or a flourish. Years of emotional neglect have also left her desperate to feel indispensable. She volunteers for every opportunity, practices tirelessly to prove her worth, and searches for any excuse to remain at the monastery rather than return home, all while convincing herself that if she can simply become exceptional enough, her father might finally accept both her as his heir and her dream of becoming a dancer.Beneath that polished facade is a frightened young woman struggling to reconcile the expectations placed upon her with the person she longs to be. Though genuinely compassionate, Adeliza begins the academy phase carrying many of the prejudices instilled by her upbringing, particularly toward Duscur. She is observant and emotionally perceptive, often "reading" people beneath the guise of casual conversation, yet she rarely turns that same understanding inward. Ironically, the cheerful, dramatic personality she initially exaggerates as part of her carefully crafted act slowly becomes genuine. Through friendships, performances, and the freedom to simply exist, Adeliza discovers that the role she has been playing is closer to her true self than the obedient heir she was raised to be.By the war phase, the masquerade has ended. Having fled House Elidure after uncovering the depth of her family's fanaticism and realizing that her innocent reports had been used to hurt people, Adeliza is consumed by guilt for betraying her friends. No longer seeking her father's approval, she instead dedicates herself to making amends, believing that someone must answer for House Elidure's sins. Though she remains expressive, warm-hearted, and theatrical, her new pessimism is now tempered by quiet conviction. She fights not out of vengeance alone, but to reconcile the two halves of herself. The wandering dancer who found freedom on the road and the heir who refuses to abandon responsibility for her family's bloody legacy.

Backstory

Adeliza Morgaine Elidure was born the crestless second child of five daughters to House Elidure, one of Western Faerghus's oldest and most influential noble families. Her father, Viscount Wulfgang Elidure, was deeply religious and ambitious, and Adeliza spent much of her childhood competing with her sisters for his approval. She was largely raised by her nursemaid, Cosima, who became more of a mother to her than either of her parents. During the summers, Adeliza stayed in Gaspard territory, where she befriended the sons of Lord Lanato and developed a love for dance and the performing arts after watching traveling minstrels. These visits gave her a rare sense of freedom and allowed her to imagine a life outside her family's expectations.Shortly before her eleventh birthday, Adeliza fell seriously ill, and physicians discovered that her dormant Crest of Luca had finally awakened. Wulfgang regarded it as a miracle from the Goddess and immediately named her the new heir to House Elidure, replacing her older sister, Oswin. Adeliza did not entirely welcome the change. Her summers in Gaspard ended, her time with Cosima became more restricted, and much of her life became centered around religious study, etiquette, and preparing for her future as head of the house. She reluctantly accepted these responsibilities, partly because she wanted her father's approval and partly because she had been taught that refusing them would be selfish. As she became more involved with the Western Church, she also began adopting its harder teachings about faith and duty. When Oswin later took her own life after being cast aside, Adeliza was left with the guilt of believing that her promotion had cost her sister everything. Rather than questioning the system that had created the situation, she initially tried to become more devoted to it, hoping that being a worthy heir would give meaning to what had happened. As a student at Garreg Mach, Adeliza was expected to write regular reports to her father about life at the Officers Academy. Those were more important than simple correspondence, with her father instructing her to observe the students and faculty and keep him informed. Though she never knew the full extent of House Elidure's plans, Adeliza served as an active, eager informant for both her family and the Western Church, using her charm and carefully exaggerated friendliness to gain the trust of her classmates before reporting on their activities, opinions, and the monastery's affairs. At first, she saw this as a duty rather than a betrayal, having been raised to believe that the Western Church protected Faerghus and that its enemies threatened the order she was meant to preserve. However, the friendships she initially formed out of obligation gradually became genuine, and she slowly began to discover that the person she had been pretending to be was who she truly wanted to become. Her growing friendships with the Blue Lions increasingly complicated her beliefs. The death of Lanato, whom she respected, and the subsequent revelation that his uprising had been a distraction forced her to question the Western Church's willingness to sacrifice its own supporters, while repeatedly facing the Church on the battlefield began to make her realize that she was just as expendable as anyone else.(Following the events of Chapters 5 and 6, Adeliza's Paralogue, "Blood Money," becomes available.)One day, Adeliza received a letter from her father requesting that she and her classmates travel to a plot of land owned by House Elidure in the mountains of Sacred Gwynhyvar, where a group of supposed bandits had been harassing the local population. Upon arriving, the class discovered a field of unmarked graves belonging to laborers who had died working in the family's exhausted gold mine, far too many to be anything but forced labor. The discovery deeply disturbed Adeliza, forcing her to confront the possibility that her family's wealth and influence had been built upon suffering she had never known about. At the mine, the supposed bandits were revealed to be surviving soldiers of the Western Church, hiding among the abandoned workings. The class defeated them, but the encounter left Adeliza with more questions than answers. Were those enemy soldiers bandits or simply loose ends? For the first time, Adeliza began to wonder just how ambitious her father truly was, and how much of House Elidure's darker dealings had been deliberately kept from her.By Chapter 9, Adeliza was forced to confront the truth that her father and his allies had been responsible for atrocity after atrocity, and that she had knowingly helped them. Consumed by guilt, she requested a meeting with Byleth, Rhea, and Seteth, where she confessed everything she knew. Byleth assured her that she was not to blame, and Adeliza agreed to secretly feed her father false intelligence while they worked toward a proper investigation. However, the war began before anything could be done. After the fall of Garreg Mach, Adeliza fled House Elidure with Cosima and took the name Liza Castalier, going into hiding. Depending on the route, she became a political refugee with the Eastern Church in Verdant Wind or Silver Snow, joined the Mittelfrank Opera Company in Crimson Flower, or wandered the roads of Faerghus as a traveling trobairitz in Azure Moon. If her paralogue was not completed, Adeliza remained with House Elidure and eventually appeared as an enemy alongside Cornelia during the Liberation of Fhirdiad.Five years of growth and self discovery later, she returned to Garreg Mach to fulfill an old promise made.

Should these interactions be in conflict with how you play your character, we may discuss what to keep and give away.Ashe & Christophe:While spending time at her family's summer estate in Gaspard territory, Adeliza would often play with Ashe, his little siblings, and his older brother, Christophe. Despite ruling only a small viscounty, the family commands significant influence through its immense wealth and centuries-old ties to the Western Church. Claiming descent from Saint Luca Elidurus, the Elidures have gradually drifted from their founder's ideals, becoming increasingly devoted to preserving their legacy and religious authority above all else. The Viscounty of ElidureLocated along Faerghus' western frontier, the Viscounty of Elidure borders both the Western Church and the Adrestian Empire. Though modest in size, its strategic position has made it an important center of trade, faith, and politics for generations. Alongside their ancestral lands, House Elidure maintains estates near Castle Gaspard and owns several prosperous holdings established in occupied Duscur after the Tragedy of Duscur.Wulfgang Artorias ElidureThe current head of House Elidure, Wulfgang is a respected noble renowned for his devotion to the faith and unwavering sense of duty. Behind that reputation, however, he is one of the leading supporters of the Western Church's hardliner movement, using his wealth and influence to shelter its members and expand his family's power. A willing participant in the Tragedy of Duscur and an early supporter of the Adrestian Empire during the war, Wulfgang values legacy and ambition above all else- even at the cost of his own family.
